The Vills Bros Standard: Arona Villiatora Shines at ADCC
Iron Sharpens Iron: Arona Villiatora’s Dominant ADCC Performance
The ADCC stage is where reputations are forged and limits are tested. For Arona Villiatora, the most recent ADCC outing wasn't just another tournament—it was a definitive statement on the power of technique, family legacy, and a relentless wrestling pedigree.
Competing at 55kg but testing his mettle in the 60kg division, Arona stepped onto the mats giving up significant weight to his opponents. In the world of high-level grappling, those extra kilograms usually translate to massive pressure, but Arona’s performance proved that precision beats power when the stakes are highest.
A Family of Champions: The Vills Bros Legacy
Arona’s success is a direct product of his environment. Training out of Vills Bros BJJ in North Las Vegas, he is part of a powerhouse family unit where championship gold is the standard. Led by his father, Black Belt Matthew Villiatora, Arona sharpens his skills alongside his brothers, AJ and Alika.
The room at Vills Bros is elite. Arona trains daily with AJ, a high-level competitor in the advanced ranks, and Alika, who boasts an incredible resume as a Wrestling State Champion, 3x State Placer, 3x Regional Champion, and a multiple-time IBJJF major medalist in the colored belts. When you are trading rounds with State Champions and international medalists every day, stepping onto the ADCC mats feels like just another day at the office.
Wrestling: From the Big Stage to the Mats
If there was one standout takeaway from this ADCC, it was Arona’s wrestling. With a background that includes dominant success at Shadow Ridge—boasting a stellar high school record of 82-20 and championship runs at 106 lbs—his ability to dictate the pace of a match is second to none.
At ADCC, his takedowns looked sharper and more clinical than ever. He utilized his wrestling base not just to score, but to maintain a suffocating top game that neutralized the size advantage of his 60kg opponents.
All Glory to God
Despite the dominance, Arona remains one of the most humble figures in the gym. Reflecting on the weekend, he kept the focus on growth and gratitude:
"Another ADCC in the books. Fought up to 60kg at 55kg, and had some good matches. The wrestling is looking better than ever, and all glory to god for this opportunity."
The Road Ahead
With the Villiatora brothers constantly sharpening one another and a wrestling base that continues to evolve, Arona is quickly becoming one of the most exciting prospects to watch in the lighter-weight divisions. Whether he’s training with family in North Las Vegas or dominating the national stage, one thing is clear: Arona Villiatora is just getting started.
